Part of Furniture for Mass Fabrication, the Wave Coffee Table re-imagines the world‘s centralized approach to furniture manufacturing while stepping away from the constraints of contemporary furniture design; allowing for beautifully curved shapes without significant increase to production cost and time. Designed using proprietary integrated wood joinery facilitated by the increasing ubiquity of CNC manufacturing, requiring minimal metal parts resulting in a low carbon product.

The worldwide shipping industry is responsible for approximately 3% of the global CO2 and GHG emissions per year; about 1 billion tonnes annually. A contributor to those emissions, mass production of furniture often results in redundant global transportation of both raw materials and finished product, in some cases resulting in the material starting and the product finishing in the same place. This is often the case for countries with resource-based economies, such as Canada.

The increasing centralization of manufacturing around the world has led to a lack of resiliency in product supply chains, excessive transportation emissions, and negative impacts to local manufacturing industries. Furniture for Mass Fabrication reduces carbon emissions in the production of furniture by collaborating with local manufacturers to source materials, fabricate and deliver furniture regionally. By relying on locally available materials, each piece maintains its design intent while becoming a reflection of its regional context.
